Our modern, indoor bouldering gym offers a fresh and exciting climbing experience for people of all abilities. The centre has a variety of different angled walls offering unique challenges, as well as a dedicated training area with campus boards, finger boards, a 40 degree wall and more. There is even a weights room and rings for those who prefer the calisthenics side of climbing.
Stock up on those climbing essentials – our in-house shop sells all the essentials, from chalk and tape through to clothing and shoes. We also have a range of guide books covering the local sandstone crags, coaching manuals and outdoor equipment including ropes. If you are looking for a present, we offer gift vouchers too.
Hungry? Grab a snack from our fully licensed café or perhaps a well-earned drink after your session.
Don’t forget – we organise outdoor rock climbing trips throughout the year so if you want to transfer those indoor skills to the local rock, let us know by checking out Chimera Outdoors.
Climbing is a sport that always takes place in a social, fun and friendly atmosphere surrounded by like-minded people. Whether you are new to the sport of bouldering, looking to get fit, keen to implement a healthy lifestyle or a seasoned pro, Chimera is the place for you. We are a bouldering gym which means no ropes - instead the walls are lower, and surrounded by safety matting. But it also means no harnesses to squeeze into and no tricky knots to learn. It is the most accessible form of climbing and the easiest to take up.
You can rent shoes at reception, and simply have to register and watch the induction video before you can climb. You can register online here to save time. No prior experience is required – just turn up and have some fun on our bouldering walls.
If you want a helping hand, we offer taster sessions to those new to the sport and coaching classes for those looking to improve.
Tunbridge Wells is home to our original Chimera gym, we are in the heart of Kent just an hour outside of London. You can walk from High Brooms train station or the local bus stop, or we have a free car park right outside the centre.
Our bouldering gym was designed and is run by local climbers who grew up climbing on the local sandstone here and know the area well, and is a great place to be introduced to the sport. Or if you just want to try something new, or have fun with your friends or even just get some specific strength training in, Chimera is the place for you.

Chris is Chimera’s Director, he grew up in Kent and has been climbing since the age of 10, and he loves it every bit as much today as he did back then. When not honing his skills on the local sandstone rocks around Tunbridge Wells , Chris regularly heads to Fontainebleau in France to boulder with his friends.
Andre is Chimera’s Director and also Head Route Setter. He has been climbing since he could crawl, and as well as bouldering, is proficient in sport and trad climbing. He's climbed all over the world, from Thailand to Madagascar and beyond, and of course has been to the mecca of climbing, Yosemite
Danny makes sure Chimera stays open and running - not an easy task at the best of times! From organising the events to designing new features, Danny is always busy - but still just about finds time to squeeze in some climbing and then transfers those climbing skills to his other favourite passion, snowboarding.
