Spring might be feeling an awful lot like winter, but time is galloping on and as such, our summer comps will soon be here.
Canterbury will be hosting The Big Boulder Bash on Saturday 20th May, while The Big Summer Party will be back in Tunbridge Wells on the 15th July.
Read on to find out the format, what you need to do, and most importantly – what the wear...
The Big Boulder Bash
When: Saturday 20th May 2023
Timings: Junior comp 2pm – 5pm, with podiums at 6pm
Adult comp 3.30pm - 6.30pm with finals at 7.30pm followed by podiums
The Big Boulder Bash has moved to an earlier date for this year. Inside, there will be a variety of blocs dotted around the centre for you all to go at, with grades for all ability levels and plenty of climbs for kids. So don’t be put off if you climb in the lower grade ranges, come along and have fun and give it a go!
If you haven’t been before, there will be tape marking out where your hands and feet need to be to start the climbs, and plenty of staff on hand to answer any questions you might have.
There is going to be some epic Vietnamese food on offer outside from a street food vendor, plenty of gin for once you have finished climbing, some fun and games and then in the evening the finals will be well worth a watch.
Speaking of the finals, the top six men and the top six women will be invited to compete for a cash prize. It’s very simple, the first to top the golden bloc wins. If no one tops it, then the climb will be opened to the public and the cash will roll over until we have a top. If it doesn’t happen on the Saturday, whoever tops it just needs to film it and upload it to social media to claim the money!
You can pre-book your ticket via our website, and just need to pay entry on the day as you would for a normal session.
The Big Summer Party 2023
Where: Tunbridge Wells
When: Saturday 15th July 2023
Timings: Junior comp 2.30pm - 5pm, Adults 4pm - 6.30pm
Junior/Adult prize giving 6.45pm
Dyno Comp follows at 7.30pm
Gold blocs 8pm
The Big Summer Party just gets bigger and bigger each year. Inside there will be all sorts of blocs dotted around for you guys to climb, with unique challenges in the cave and whatever wackiness the setters can come up with elsewhere.
The blocs will all be clearly marked with tape, with juniors needing to grab a scoresheet from reception and adults scoring using the Toplogger app. There will be plenty of Chimera staff members around to ask if you aren’t sure or if it is your first comp and you need some guidance.
In the evening, there will be a dyno competition open to everyone, and then the golden blocs will be released. First to top wins £100 - it’s that simple. Make sure you stick around and watch as it is always a lot of fun.
Outside there will be stalls, games, pizza from the Rascals boys and some great local DJ’s.
You will be able to pre-book tickets closer to the time to get discounted entry. Keep an eye on our social media for the links, and we’ll update our events page too.
